Bollywood focus: MALLIKA SHERAWAT

... Mallika was 21 when she appeared on the cover page of an international magazine called Snoop, as well as the Indian edition of Cosmopolitan.

Mallika Sherawat who is today considered as India’s sex symbol was born as Reema Lamba in Rohtak in Haryana on the 24th of October 1981. Being a small town girl she always had the dream of being a star someday. Mallika has finished her degree in Philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University. Later she decided to enter into Bollywood by doing whatever it took, with this intention she disobeyed her father who was against this and also walked out on her husband a Jet Airways pilot Captain Karan Singh Gill. The two met as Mallika was a part time air hostess with the flight company.

Mallika’s dare to bare attitude and the ample amount of skin showed in her movies was enough to make her the hottest star of Bollywood. Mallika made her debut with a small role in Vashu Bhagnani's Jeena Sirf Mere Liye, but it was Khwahish and her dare bare attitude with co-actor Himanshu Mallik that brought her fame in Bollywood.

Mallika was 21 when she appeared on the cover page of an international magazine called Snoop, as well as the Indian edition of Cosmopolitan. This was all before her debut film even hit the screens, a huge accomplishment for a girl who has no filmi background and no god father in Bollywood.

In the movie Khwahish, Mallika’s 17 kisses turned the audience away and her popularity kept diminishing. Then came Mahesh Bhatt’s thriller Murder which was directed by Anurag Basu. In this movie Mallika played the role of a married woman who is not physically satisfied by her husband and seeks it from her lover. The woman in the film has to have shades of celebration, of blossoming passion, love and insecurity which she played to the letter. The film went on to become the top grosser of ’04 and her acting skills in this bold movie were noted by the audience and boosted her popularity immensely.

The actresses next film Kiss Kiss Ki Kismat where she stared along side Dharmendra as her father-in-law had the media and publicity works going beserk over it. The duo sizzled on screen with Mallika’s attitude.

Soon after her films she was selected to play a role in an international film with Jackie Chan in the film The Myth. Though her role lasted for only eight minutes the publicity it got her was immense and she was back at the top of the list of most popular actresses.

Audacious, vulnerable, and with tons of oomph, Mallika has the code to hack the 'Succeed in Bollywood' password. This small town girl form Harayana has surprised everyone with her success which came so quickly and in huge amounts. By far she is the biggest Bollywood star if media attention were to be the gauge of stardom. The media through all its channels have been lapping up whatever comes from the actress who knows how to shock the audience with each and every performance of hers.

Urvashi Sharma becomes Santa Claus!

Urvashi Sharma visited the children at the Brain Tumour Foundation this Christmas. And as you can imagine, this Santa brought a sleigh-full of joy to the kids. She spread the sweet spirit of Christmas by gifting the kids with their favourite thing – chocolates!

“Children love chocolates,” Urvashi smiles, “And as you can guess, everyone here was very happy to see the chocolates. I’m just happy that I could do something for them.”

Urvashi had planned to surprise the children as Santa, but she didn’t expect that the children would surprise her, too! They had prepared some special gifts for her. Says Urvashi, holding up the gifts, “There are calendars and paintings here, which the kids painted themselves. And in each painting there is an emotion. There’s a hope that people will buy these paintings and raise funds that will help these kids. I love the sense of hope that’s there in these paintings.”

As Urvashi has become a part of a social cause, this Christmas is surely going to be one that she remembers. She has an important message to give, “I’d like to ask God to give me courage like these children have, so that when there are difficulties and problems in my life, I can handle them with strength and courage like these kids do.”

Urvashi’s little sister accompanied her to celebrate Christmas with the children. The only one missing was her model sister, Sucheta Sharma. Hope even she can visit the children next Christmas.

After he finished his education Fardeen returned to Mumbai to enter the film industry. He made his debut with Prem Aggan which released in ’98. The movie , unfortunately, was a flop and failed miserably at the box office. His second film, directed by Ram Gopal Verma, titled Jungle, was a hit and served to launch his career in Bollywood.

After this success, his next couple of films went unnoticed and he made a come back in 2003 with Khushi. This film too flopped but his performance made an impact on the critics. In 2004 his performance in the movie Dev with Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri and Kareena Kapoor. He received critical acclaim for it. Fardeen's No Entry in2005 was one of the greatest hits and was also the year’s highest grossing films. Post No Entry, none of his films have fared well at the box office .

Before getting married, Fardeen dated Ruheen Jaiswal for five years, following which he married Natasha Madhwani. She is the daughter of former actress Mumtaz and business tycoon Mayur Madhawani based in Uganda. On May 6th 2005, the two were engaged in London and the marriage took place on the 14th of December 2005 via a registeration service. Apparently the wedding festivities lasted for three whole days and was held at the Hyatt and JW Marriott hotels. The ceremony followed traditional Muslim and Hindu rites and was attended by the who’s who of filmistan. Fardeen’s wife’s mother Mumtaz and his father Feroz have played lovers onscreen many a times in the ’70.

In an unfortunate event, Fardeen who is considered as today’s youth icon was caught red handed while trying to buy cocaine from a drug peddler at an ATM in Juhu Vile Parle Development Scheme. The police caught the duo with a total of 9gm of the drug.

Aishwarya Rai lashes back at the media

Aishwarya Rai was recently seen in Delhi at a diamond jewellery launch. It was the launch of a brand that she endorses. The beautiful Bachchan bahu looked every bit resplendent at the do.

At the event, Ash was seen fuming at the media for putting words into her mouth. An angry Aishwarya said, “If you want to ask questions, do that. Please do not attribute statements to me.” She further said as a clarification, “If you want to know, I started my career with Tamil films. I am doing Hindi films. I have done some Bengali films and I also have done a couple of Hollywood projects. That doesn’t mean that I am shifting anywhere. It is just a part of broadening your experience in cinema.”

There are also reports that Hollywood actor, Will Smith has approached her for a film. She said, “I’d love to work with him. I love the kind of cinema he has done. But I have not been able to chalk out time for his film.”

For Aishwarya, year 2008 will be the year of some big films. Her first film post marriage with hubby Abhishek will be released in 2008. Also, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s mega budget, epic film, Jodhaa Akbar will release in the same year. Then there is the Hollywood film, Pink Panther 2 slated to release next year as well. And now, the possibilities of a film with Will Smith! Well, 2008 seems to be definitely the year of this star.

Vijay Singh Deol, better known as Bobby Deol, was born in Mumbai. He is the younger son of the veteran actor Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur.

When he was 10 years old he made a very brief appearance in the 1977 movie Dharam Veer, where he played the younger version of his father's character.

His next movie Tango Charlie too flopped in India but it was a massive hit in the USA. The movie earned him mammoth critical acclaim. His latest release this year, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom also didn’t do as well as expected. Though the movie flopped, Bobby Deol received great reviews for his comic acting.

He overshadowed the other actors in the movie with his sheer comic skills. 2007 also saw the release of Apne, in which Bobby Deol co-starred with his father, Dharmendra and older brother Sunny Deol, together for the first time. This movie did quite well.

This strapping Deol is married to Tanya Ahuja and has two sons, Aryamaan and Dharam.

Aamir certain of Taare Zameen Par’s success

Aamir Khan’s first directorial venture Taare Zameen Par is on the verge of release. However, like often happens, its release date will clash with that of the purely commercial film, Welcome. The fact that industries current hottest paid, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif are in the lead in Welcome and it is an out and out comedy film as compared to Aamir’s Taare Zameen Par which deals with a sensitive topic.

Doesn’t this fact upset Aamir? This is what Aamir had to say; “I am quite confident about this film. I think it is a very safe film. It will be very popular and people will like it very much… Of late I have been keener towards off beat stories and they are usually successful at the box office… Also, though I think I am a good parent, this film has brought me closer to my children.”

After the audience’s positive response to off beat films like Iqbaal, Apne, Chak De, Dhan Dhan Dhan Goal, may be there is actually a less tapped market for ‘different’ films. Aamir says, “There was a time when we used to think that if we made a film without the age-old formula, people will not like it. I never believed in it though.”

Aamir Khan leads quite a seclude’s life. He is hardly seen in the regular Page 3 parties and neither does he take part in any Bollywood award ceremony. Recently he even refused to get his statue done at Madame Tussauds. He explains, “I am closely associated with the industry. Every human being has a different priority and want. Mine is to entertain and keep my audience happy.”

Ask him if he’d rather continue as an actor or a director, he says, “If I see a story which I want to direct, I’ll take it up. On the other hand, if I feel like acting in the film, I do that. It’s not like people have not acted as well as directed. Look at Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutta and Shantaram.”

He goes on to talk about his forthcoming film, a remake of the south Indian super hit, Ghajini. He says that the title has not been decided yet. Well, this confident actor has proved his mettle as an actor. It’s just a matter of hours before we get to see his directorial prowess.

Katrina to do Yuvraj & Hello with Salman

Bollywood is abuzz with the rumours of the break up of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. While some say that it is Salman’s possessiveness that’s led to the break-up, other’s blame Katrina’s independent nature for the split.

Katrina made her debut with Amitabh Bachchan in Kaizad Gustad’s Boom. Though the film didn’t do well at the box office, she did get noticed. Somewhere around that time, Salman met Katrina at a party and was bowled over by her simplicity.

The two started dating each other. That’s when he signed her for his home production, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya. Later, Katrina also did a cameo in Ram Gopal Verma’s Sarkar.

However, even after doing a couple of more films in Bollywood and down south, Katrina couldn’t find a footing in the film industry. She almost got lost amongst the barrage of newcomers. Till Namastey London happened! This film with Akshay Kumar was one of 2007’s biggest hit. Then came the super hit Partner, with Salman, Govinda and Lara.

Now that Katrina has established herself in Bollywood, she no longer consults with Salman before signing a film, which was the case till she was just another beautiful face. Katrina will be soon seen opposite Akshay in Singh Is King and Welcome. What has seemingly miffed Salman Khan has the fact that she even signed a film with Shahid Kapoor.

She has two films opposite Salman Khan, titled Hello and Yuvraj. She is also working hard on improving her Hindi as well. Well, considering her efforts and the number of films she has in her kitty seems like, Katrina will be very soon known as a superstar than just a pretty face.

Kareena & Salman back to being friends

Reports are that Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan are back to being friends. The two have finally agreed to work together in Sohail Khan’s Mr & Mrs Khanna.

The reports of an ongoing cold war between Kareena and Salman have been there since quite some time. It all started when, Kareena’s then boy friend, Shahid and Salman were performing for a dance show. Apparently Shahid suggested some changes in the way Salman dances and the latter got miffed. According to Salman, Shahid should have shown the respect meant for a senior.

Since Kareena as very much in love with Shahid then, she also supported him. This led to the tiff between Kareena and Salman. He was even to do an item number in her shelved film, Milenge Milenge. Bu towing to the fallout, he decided against it.

Now that Kareena is no longer dating Shahid, seems like, she wants to go back to being friends with Salman. Well, the two stars have had just one film together, Kyun Ki, and even that did not do well at the box office. Wonder what the chemistry would be like in the new film?

Kareena might star in Sajid Khan’s next

Reports are that after the super success of Sajid Khan’s directorial debut, Heyy Babyy, he is planning to make yet another comedy film. IN his next film, he wishes to cast Kareena Kapoor. The film is going to be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Apparently, he has shown her the rough draft of his script and Kareena has said yes to the project as well. Sajid’s film is going to be a comedy with three lead actresses and sources say that Vidya Balan is going to be one of the three leading ladies. Well, with Vidya and Kareena already in the cast, wonder who’ll be the third beauty who’ll complete the casting coup?

Deepika plays host at Yuvraj’s b’day bash

Deepika Padukone sure knows to do a good job of whatever she takes up. She was recently seen playing host at good friend, Yuvraj Singh’s birthday bash.

Though it was the cricket star’s birthday party, Deepika went around playing the perfect host, as if it was a family affair. The bash saw the who’s who from the Bollywood fraternity making their presence felt. Even Shahrukh Khan was invited, however owing to time constraints, he couldn’t make it.

Yuvraj’s ex-love, Kim Sharma was conspicuous by her absence. Wonder, if she was missed by anyone, and least of all the birthday boy as Deepika was charming to the hilt, through the night. Yuvraj and Deepika danced together and later settled for a quite dinner.

Not long back, Yuvraj had invited Deepika for the India Pakistan cricket match held at Jaipur and apparently, she did go for the match and later on the two went on a long drive. Well, going by the looks of it, seems like cupid has his hands full.

Jab Shahid Kapoor dines with Sania Mirza

Reports of Shahid Kapoor and Sania Mirza meeting in Bangalore and spending time together have been on since some days. Post his break-up with Kareena Kapoor, Shahid has joined the list of eligible bachelors in town.

So the news of spending ‘quality’ time with Sania sure came as a shocker for many of Shahid’s fans. Apparently, the two met in a Hotel in Bangalore. They had dinner together and later went up to his room. The Hotel staff even said that Shahid’s friend walked out of his room when the two walked in.

As for Shahid, he says, he was in Bangalore to attend the housewarming party of a friend and happened to have dinner with Sania and friends at the same hotel as he was staying. He also said, let’s assume that we are dating; what is the problem? Well, Shahid, we certainly have no issues if you are dating Sania, as you definitely make a cute couple. However, it would be certainly nice if the two didn’t play hide and seek with the media.

Music review- Welcome

WELCOME -Music review

Welcome is the next Akshay Kumar slated for release at the fag end of the year. The actor has had a fantastic year and is being talked of as being no less than Shah Rukh Khan, where popularity is concerned. In fact, the rise of this actor has gone primarily unnoticed with the media running around SRK and the other Khans while Akshay has silently gone in for the kill. However, unlike his previous hit, Heyy Babyy, which had music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music of Welcome is not such a welcome sound to the ears. The music of this Firoz Nadiadwala film, directed by Anees Bazmee, has been composed by quite a few composers and hence there is no consistency to the album. There is Himesh Reshammiya, Anand Raj Anand and Sajid-Wajid involved in the business of creating music for the film. Somehow the expected effect is not forthcoming and the music album of Welcome is just slightly above mediocre.

However, having said that, the album begins with quite a bang. The title song, Welcome kind of sets the mood for a fun time ahead. This number has been composed by Sajid-Wajid and singers Shaan and Soumya Raoh lend their voices to the number, with composer Wajid chipping in as well. The composers have used trumpets and a lot of orchestration to give the song a grand party feel. The number has an almost visual feel to it and one is sure that 'seeing'the song will just add to this number's popularity.

Anand Raj Anand makes his entry with the next number, Hoth Rasiley, which is sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal and the composer himself. The music in the beginning gives one the impression that we have a Punjabi tadka number on hand. But the number lacks that essential spark. It is, at best, ordinary. Though it has a very good beat, and creates a wonderful atmosphere as well. But it stops short of being a rocking number. However, the singers, all give it their best shot. As it is, this is not so much a singer's song but owes more to the arrangement for its effect.

Himesh Reshammiya makes his appearance in the album with two compositions. The first of these is Insha Allah, sung by Shaan, Krishna, Akruti Kakkar and Reshammiya himself. The number begins in a very deceptive fashion, with slow, romantic notes played by a solo saxophone. But that changes soon enough as Reshammiya comes on singing Insha Allah. The composer-singer outdoes himself in the manner in which he pitches the 'Insha Allah' refrain at suitable intervals in the song, at an amazingly high pitch. If the intention was to raise the pitch of the song, then it falls dismally short of that. The poetry, is of course, not worth writing home about. But where the music of this number is concerned, one feels that Reshammiya has given us better. It has a mediocre beat and may just catch despite being an average song. But there is a chance that the song has been choreographed and shot superbly, which may just give it a major boost.

The next song is titled Koka Laka Vellari, whatever that may mean. Its music has been composed by Reshammiya, who has also lent his voice to it. This number provides a respite from the high voltage numbers that went before it. It is more subdued, emotional and more like music to the ears. This is more like the Reshammiya that we know. It has all the hallmarks of a good Reshammiya number, there is a good fusion of both Indian and Western arrangements and the number has been sung with feeling. The tabla bit at the end of each line provides a very good effect. The number is a sad love song, and Reshammiya pays heed to the mood of the number in his arrangement as well. One of the better numbers of the album along with the title song. But Koka Laka Vellari still remains a mystery.

Ucha Lamba Kad is the third number sung and composed by Anand Raj Anand. He sings this number all by himself, backed by a capable chorus. This is a very typical number, again with a Punjabi flavour to it. It is a throwback to the fusion Punjabi folk tracks and finds it inspiration in that genre. But the number is not catchy enough and is unlikely to create any kind of storm.

In fact if there is any number besides the title song ' Welcome', which is has staying power, then it is the last song of the album, Kiya Kiya. This number is composed and sung by Anand Raj Anand, along with Shweta Pandit. The singer-composer redeems himself with this number. Kiya Kiya is definitely a winner. The number is catchy, -- its beat, its music, all have a certain zest and it turns out to be the best in this album. The picturisation should add to the song's popularity.

One is not sure whether the idea of having so many music composers has added any real value to this album. There is no real winner in the album, no song which has enduring power. The film may well go on to do better business than the film itself.

Music Director: Bappi Lahiri, Anand Raaj Anand, Shafqat Ali Khan, Gourav Das Gupta

Rating: ***

Whoever said Indian cinema doesn't know crispness should watch Dus Kahaniyaan. With a suave collection of ten stories, Sanjay Gupta has been able to live up to his own expectations and conveniently drown the voices yelling about chaotic cinema. You start the film with an apprehension of sorts but through the flood of stories, you're forced to put them aside.

Ten stories come alive in two hours carrying an undertone message, each one different from the other. Each story grips you in the chair (since they finish off in ten minutes) but there are a few that guarantee to come home with you. 'Gubbare' (Gupta's personal favourite) and 'Rice Plate' easily supersede the lot. Some leave you with a half-baked impression you don't know what to do with.

Khoya Khoya Chand

Cast: Soha Ali Khan, Shiney Ahuja, Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Saurabh Shukla, Soniya Jehan, Shushmita Mukherjee,

Director: Sudhir Mishra

Producer: Prakash Jha

Music Director: Shantanu Moitra

Rating: *

Is it the story of Madhubala, Meenakumari or Sarika? Is it a movie, documentary or making of a movie? Nothing is clear. Sad, because director Sudhir Mishra has an interesting subject on hand but somewhere, he loses it while converting his thoughts into screenplay.

You don't know whether what you are seeing on screen is the actual shot of the movie or of another movie being shot within the movie? Confusing, right? Absolutely! There is no effort to brighten up the lighting!!! So there you are caught wondering what is being projected on screen. After some time, you stop taxing your brain and just slip deeper into your seat.

And if the film is set in the sixties and seventies and the other actors dress and have hairstyles resembling that era, why is Shiney Ahuja (Zafar) a writer-director looking like he has stepped out of an Ad in the current era? Speaking of Ahuja, he steps onto the screen with a pained expression and maintains it throughout the duration of the 15 reels. Vinay Pathak is falling into a dangerous rut. This talented actor is playing a side-kick more than once. While there is nothing wrong in playing a side-kick, I have to admit that Vinay is far more talented. He has to use his creative side more imaginatively if he wants to leave an indelible mark on Indian cinema. And I know this man has that.

Now for the story, if you have not yet guessed from the opening line. It is about the struggle of a pushy mother to get her daughter, who is already an extra in films, the heroine roles even before she can turn 15! So she pushes real hard taking her to producers and directors who scar Soha Ali Khan (Nikhat). Later, Nikhat, 'uses' the reigning star of that time Rajat Kapoor, to climb up the ladder. She also realizes that when she decides to get married to Zafar, her bank account has been wiped off by her mother! Rings a bell???

To cut the long story short, Zafar and Nikhat then 'Live in'. He then has some differences because she refuses to do his film, which eventually flops and he moves off to England while Nikhat hits the bottle big time. Cut to a few years later when Zafar returns. He learns that Nikhat also has a hole in the heart, after she agrees to star in his film. They marry. She dies a year later, and Zafar goes on to make many more films. The last two lines are flashed on screen when the movie ends, that's how I know.

Arshad’s accident on the sets of Sunday

Recently while shooting for his forthcoming film, Sunday, Arshad Warsi, met with an unfortunate accident. The man with a funny bone, is playing the role of a tourist guide.

For one of the sequences, the shooting was to be done within an old monument. As the shot was being taken, one of the reflectors fell on Arshad’s head and he had to get a CT scan done as the pain refused to subside.

Such accidents usually do happen, but mostly while shooting action sequences. In spite of not being an action sequence, it was just plain unfortunate that Arshad had to go through this mishap.

Halla Bol release pushed to 11th January

The release date of Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan starrer, Halla Bol, has been postponed. The Raj Kumar Santoshi film, which was supposed to release on the 21st of December, will now be out in the theaters from the 11th of January.
It was alleged that there were no distributors to buy the film. However, director Santoshi said that, the film has been sold at a very high price and the actual reason is something else. He explained that on the same day, two other films, Aamirs’ Taare Zameen Par and Akshay Kumar’s Welcome, will be releasing. To avoid a clash of the three films, the makers of Halla Bol decided to postpone its release date.

The producer of Halla Bol says that the story of the film is quite different. So there was no question of failing to find a distributor. Moreover they needed more time for the marketing and promotion of the film. Well, this just means that the audiences will get to watch this hatke film a little after the expected date.

Hrithik takes a break due to knee injury

“I’ve been meeting directors and producers with my legs resting on the table,” says Hrithik Roshan, nestled comfortably on his sofa in his plush apartment in Juhu, legs perched on a low table, “but I tell them that this is not because the success of Dhoom 2 has gone to my head!” he laughs.

The reason behind this demeanour is that Hrithik had pushed himself to the limit during the shoot of Krishh and Dhoom 2 and as a result, he had torn a ligament in his right knee. Last night, the actor left for Singapore for a well-deserved, six-week break to rest and recuperate from the injury but before that, he spoke to BT about the complications that led to the same.

“I think too much of abuse during Krishh and Dhoom 2 and some portions of Jodha Akbar where I had to do a lot of action stuff led to this. I basically succumbed to the notion that we’re all heroes and pain doesn’t matter,” he says. So Hrithik has been strapping himself and going through the pain and getting the shot done. “I understand now how foolish I have been!” he smiles.

The actor has identified Singapore as the place where he can get the best medical treatment for his problem and will be undergoing aggressive physiotherapy sessions for the next six weeks. He will be going there alone for the time being, but wife Sussane has plans to join him later.

But Hrithik admits he’s not a good patient. “It’s very hard for me to do nothing. I have to force myself to rest! It’s the hardest thing for me to do. If you tell me that I have to run 24 hours a day for the next 10 days to make my knee better, I will do it, because I have something do! That’s a challenge for me. Resting is against my personality,” he says. But maybe that’s the reason he’s reached this point where he has to force himself to rest? “That’s true,” he admits with a laugh.

The actor will be back in Mumbai sometime in January, close to Jodha Akbar’s release date. “The film has taken far longer than what we thought it would take, but then time is immaterial when you’re talking about climbing an Everest. Jodha Akbar for me is an Everest, so it doesn’t matter how much time it takes to conquer that peak, as long as we’ve achieved that task and that has been done. It has juiced me out completely and I can say that I deserve this little break now,” he smiles.

SRK launches a book on Om Shanti Om

Shahrukh Khan is known to have a knack of taking every remark and criticism to his stride. However, recently when a BCCI official remarked that SRK shouldn’t use the cricket ground as a means of promoting his films, Shahrukh was obviously upset.

On the occasion of the release of a book on the making of Om Shanit Om, Shahrukh said, “I have never used any platform for the promotion of my film, unless the platform was specifically meant for it. I am not so by nature. The fact is that God, this country and its people have given me so much that I do not have to go and praise myself or my work on somebody else’s platform.”

He also explained his talking about Om Shanti Om during the match. He said, “I’d been there to watch a match. There, I was asked by Rameez Raza that his family wanted to watch my film. Now I find it quite odd, if a film actor won’t talk about his film, then what does he talk about?

Release of the book written on the making of Om Shanti Om. “I think there should be some accountability and notability on how a film is made. It’s about films. Not about me.”

At the book launch, the leading lady of Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone, was also present. She said, “I am very happy and proud of the fact that I’m on its cover. I liked the movie experience.”

Arjun Rampal and Farah Khan also made their presence felt on the occasion. Farah said, “For me it is like a personal diary as we had such a good time making the film. Also, I always wanted somebody writes a book on my film.”

SRK, who was visibly happy with the book, commented on some bits of the book. He spoke about a particular section dedicated to the junior artistes in the film industry. SRK said, “Mushtaq has written a chapter on junior artistes and there is a beautiful line by him that says ‘We don’t dream as dreams don’t come true’. I would like to dedicate this book, Mushtaq’s writing and Farah’s creation to those people who haven’t got their place in the sun.”

Reports of Shahrukh’s Villa in Dubai had been making rounds since quite some time. It is said that the house is so big hat it can be even spotted from the moon. Also, as neighbours SRK has Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for company. On being asked about these reports, he said, “It’s not a wrong report. The Naqeel developers had gifted it to me three years back. I don’t know who my neighbours are and I have yet not taken possession of the house yet. I just need some privacy. So I hope my neighbours are as private as I am.” He further quipped, “I have never been to the moon. I would love to go there and check it out though.” Well, here is one actor who sure knows how to deal with the inquisitiveness of media and his fans.

Born to Indian parents, Geeta Basra was raised in UK. She came down to India, to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a Bollywood star. An ardent admirer of Madhur Dixit, Geeta has always aspired to become like her.

She used to mostly dance on Madhuri Dixit’s songs and her first stage show was at an early age of two.

When Geeta heard that Ram Gopal Verma was making Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, she desperately wanted to take up that role, except for a small hitch that she was stillbased in London.

However, before long, she decided to make her dream a reality. She came to Mumbai and joined the renowned Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting school, where quite a few established stars were trained. Once she finished her training she went back to London and hired a manager for herself.

Her debut film, Dil Diya Hai, made by Aditya Dutt had Emraan Hashmi as the lead actor. In this movie she co-starred with Emraan Hashmi. The film didn’t do well and she went on to do The Train. The film did moderately well.

Nothing seems to dampen her spirits though. She believes that she’ll prove her mettle and will be the next Madhuri Dixit of Bollywood.

Krrish to be remade with a child artiste

A well known production house is planning to remake Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish. However, this one is going to be titled a junior Krrish. The production company has sent a proposal of this film to the original Krrish’s producer – director, Rakesh Roshan. They are also trying to buy the remake rights of the film.

The production house has earlier made the animated film, Hanuman, which was quite a hit amongst the children. This film will be based on an eight year old child with special powers. Currently, they are working on the appearance of the child.

Every detail of the film will be given to Rakesh Roshan as he is quite possessive about this brand and wants to look into the smallest aspect of the remake. It’s heard that the company is so excited about this film that even if Rakesh doesn’t produce this film, they will go on with the making. Well, seems like kids are soon going to have a child super hero to look up to.

...Starting off his career by working in music videos and ads, Shahid made his Bollywood debut as a background dancer...

Shahid Kapoor was born February 25, 1981 in Mumbai, India is a Bollywood actor and model. He studied in Delhi in his earlier days and came to Mumbai and joined Rajhans Vidlaya post which he studied in Mithibai College. While studying in college, he continued pursuing dancing.

Starting off his career by working in music videos and ads, Shahid made his Bollywood debut as a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's Taal. After four years, he made his debut as a leading actor in Ishq Vishk and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. Following that he did films like Fida and Shikhar.

In 2005, he had a setback in his career when all three of his films, Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi, Deewane Huye Pagal, and Shikhar failed to do well at the box office. However his performance in the latter was praised and he received a Star Screen Best Actor Nomination for his performance in the film.

In 2006, things began turning around as he received his first box office success since his debut with the multi-starrer, 36 China Town. Despite mixed reviews the comic-thriller became an above-average success. Shortly after the release of 36 China Town, Kapoor's second release, Chup Chup Ke released, which was an average success. He had his first commercial success with Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah and the film turned out to be his biggest commercial success so far. Since then he has established himself as one of the most promising actors of the industry.

Before starting off his career as an actor, Kapoor worked in several music videos and ads, including one with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, post Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 1999, he was seen in the hit movie Taal as a background dancer with Aishwarya Rai in the song 'Kahiin aag lage lag jawe'.

His last release Jab We Met has proved to be a major success in India and a blockbuster in UK, alongside it has also managed to impress the critics who could not stop raving about the film. He will soon be seen in two upcoming films - Nagesh Kukunoor's Tasveer with Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia and Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm opposite Vidya Balan.
Born to actor Pankaj Kapoor of Karamchand fame and actress/classical dancer Neelima Azeem, who divorced when he was three, Shahid is a trained dancer who studied under Shiamak Davar. After the divorce of his parents, he usually lived with his mother. His step-mother is Supriya Pathak. Kapoor also has a sister named Sana and a brother named Ishaan Khattar who acted with him in Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi.

In 2004, Kapoor began dating actress Kareena Kapoor. They separated three years later in 2007. Furthermore, prior to joining the film industry, he dated actress, Hrishita Bhatt.

Priyanka Chopra

Karate chops expert Priyanka Chopra is lovingly referred to as Piggie Chops by Abhishek Bachhan. This stunt diva, glam queen and a dancer par excellence has a career that most actresses dream of. With mega banners and huge releases – there’s no stopping her now! This Bollywood glam queen wears her attitude on her sleeves. Hrithik, Abhishek, SRK, Akshay – all have an amazing onscreen chemistry as well as off screen friendship with this beauty. Priyanka seems to be in every ones good books. For her great looks, breezy, super cool, no nonsense attitude and cowboy hat in Right Here Right Now, Priyanka Chopra is also one of the Glam Actress Award 2007 nominees.

Sonam Kapoor to do Dilli 6 with Abhishek

Reports are that, Anil Kapoor’s daughter, Sonam Kapoor will be soon seen in Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s next. Apparently, this beautiful newcomer has been signed to do Dilli 6 opposite Abhishek Bachchan.

Rakeysh was reportedly having issues getting a male lead for his film. After approaching quite a few actors for the role, Abhishek Bachchan agreed to do it. Apparently, Rakeysh wanted to sign Kareena Kapoor for the role. However, after Abhishek was signed in for the male lead, Rakeysh decided against Kareena and the role went to Soha. For some reason, it didn’t work out with Soha either and Sonam was approached.

Sonam will be making her Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, opposite debutante Ranbir Kapoor. Well, not many are lucky to have such good films in their kitty even after proving themselves in the industry. Let’s just hope that post the release of Saawariya, Sonam manages to maintain the same luck with work.

Hrithik Roshan

Dhoom 2 has proved it yet again that Hrithik Roshan can bring the world to its knees if he puts his mind to it. Our next nominee is the one and only Kaho Na Pyar Hai sensation – Hrithik Roshan! Hrithik has refused quite a few Hollywood films, of which one was the sequel to Pink Panther, starring Aishwarya Rai with the legendary Steve Martin. Reason for turning down the role? Hrithik didn’t like the role. He was going to play Pink Panther’s secretary. Also, reports are that he has even refused Vishal Bharadwaj’s English movie. Well Hrithik is on a roll, his career is on an all time high and he can afford to be super selective about his roles… after all Hrithik is not only a super star but also a super hero. This undisputed king of dance and stunts will soon take up writing as well. With papa Rakesh Roshan’s assistance, he’ll be writing the sequel to Krrish. But that’s only after he’s done shooting for Jodhaa Akbar.

Ranbir Kapoor plans to revive the RK banner

Here is someone from the Kapoor Khandan who has taken it upon himself to revive the Raj Kapoor banner. It is a different issue that his debut film is nto out yet and he is yet to prove himself in Bollywood. Ranbir Kapoor, son of Rishi Kapoor and grandson of the legendary, late Raj Kapoor, has decided to bring back RK banner’s lost glory.

Ranbir will be making his acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya opposite Anil Kapoor’s daughter, Sonam Kapoor. Reports are that he wants to become a director himself and wants to revive the RK banner, which hasn’t made a single movie since the past eight ears. It’s also said that Ranbir has been working on a script as well. This one is a multi talented Kapoor.

The last film made under the RK banner was the Aishwarya Rai and Akshaye Khanna starrer, Aa Ab Laut Chalen. However, the film didn’t do well and that was the last one saw from RK banner. Now this multi-talented Kapoor lad says that he’ll revive the banner with his directorial venture within the next two years. Well considering that the dude has already many a fan sites to his name even before the release of his film, we are sure it’s not over confidence that’s made this debutante actor dream this big.

Big B, Ash & Abhishek ignore SRK yet again

Reports are that recently, Shahrukh Khan and his Om Shanti Om costars were ignored by Amitabh Bachchan at the recently held function by the Mumbai police. Big B was seen having a great time with his son and daughter in law, Abhishek and Aishwarya. However, the moment, SRK made his entry with his OM Shanti Om co-stars, Deepika Padukone, Shreyas Talpade and Arjun Rampal, the Bachchan family just opted to walk out of the venue.

Apparently, SRK, after greeting everybody at the do was heading towards the Bachchans. However, the trio just ignored him and walked out. SRK was quiet taken aback by this behaviour. The cold war between these two superstars is no news to anybody. It began with SRK bagging Kaun Banega Crorepati’s third series and then working on the remake of Big B’s classic, Don. However, now that King Khan is all set to make amends, seems like the Shahenshah of Bollywood has better things to do.

SRK promotes Om Shanti Om on Nach Baliye

With Om Shanti Om ready for release, Shahrukh Khan is all geared up promoting via all possible channels. Recently he was seen as a guest on the small screen dance competition, Nach Baliye.

The participants seemed very eager to please King Khan as all had donned the 70s look for their performance. Shahrukh must have obviously been pleased as he even performed on the Dard E Disco item number from Om Shanti Om.

Recently there were rumours that SRK had said that he will destroy Saawariya, which will also release on the same day as Om Shanti Om. However, Shahrukh had a more diplomatic version to present. He said, “What I said was I don’t want to destroy XYZ film. But, as a production house, it’s my duty to see that my competitor doesn’t win in this competition. Again, all of this is dependant on how nice my film is. I can keep promoting my film, I can market my film, but if it doesn’t click, everything is pointless.”

There were also talks of a tiff between the distributor and exhibitor of the film. Ask SRK about the issues and he cheekily retorts, “Am I an exhibitor, or a distributor? My film looks beautiful and I am not worried about anything else. If they have issue, they will resolve it. To be frank, till two days back I wasn’t even aware of an issue. That way I am a bad producer.” Well, going by the way the retro style, brought in vogue by OSO, has caught amongst the youth….seems like this movie is already a hit…

Neha Dhupia in a very hot scene

Deepika Padukone and SRK

Here is an exclusive pic of Deepika in a very hot dress

Shah Rukh is Maha Style Icon of 2007

The star cast of Om Shanti Om has left no stone unturned in the promotion of their film. Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal and the very pregnant Farah Khan were seen at the Style Awards 2007. While Shahrukh won the Maha Style Icon Award, the Most Stylist Body award went to Hrithik Roshan.

While the movie is known to have followed the seventies style, when asked about the most stylist actor of that era, the cast had many a name ready in mind. Shahrukh said, “I used to like Mumtaz a lot. I also liked Saira Bano, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi. I’ve always loved women. Then I wanted someone who looked like all of them and I found Deepika.”

Deepika’s favourites were Madhubala, Hema Malini and Mumtaz while Arjun Rampal found Zeenat Aman ‘very sexy’.
Most of the celebs were present at the do, it was the current era that made more of a difference and all of them had one name to suggest when it came to the most stylish person. Farah said, “Shahrukh keeps reinventing himself, be it his look in Chak De or Om Shanti Om.” Close friend, Karan Johar said, “I think he’s the most stylish person in the film fraternity.” Fashion designer and style guru Manish Malhotra said, “It’s his personality that is stylish. I think style is all about persona.”

Well, with the who’s who of the glam world vouching for his style quotient, it is no wonder that he won the Maha Style Icon award. Watch this video to get the complete lowdown and watch the movers and shakers from the entertainment and glam brigade.

Farhan Akhtar to produce & act in a film

There are no doubts about Farhan Akhtar’s directorial skills. Seems like, this top director has also taken acting quite seriously. He is not only acting in sister, Zoya’s film, but will also play a lead role in yet another film.

Apparently he liked the script of the film so much that he decided to produce it as well. It is based on a rock band and will also have Purab Kohli and Arjun Rampal. The trio has started training in music already. Farhan says that he is a trained guitarist and is also an expert on harmonium. Considering the quality of the films that Farhan has directed, his films as an actor are going to be surely a rocking affair.

Upen Patel signs a 3 crore film deal

Upen Patel seems to be on a film signing spree. After signing a film deal with Ashtavinayak, Upen has now signed a four film deal with Eros International. He’ll be paid three crores for the deal.

Apart from this, he already has a three film deal with Kumar Mangat as well as a three film deal with Ashtavinayak. The first film of Ashtavinayak will hit the floor on December and will be directed by Neeraj Vora. Anyway, considering that he has not had a single hit film to his credit, wonder how he is getting so many film offers?

Tabu exposed in this hot video

Bips wants Christiano to do Goal’s promo

Reports are that Bipasha Basu has requested soccer player Christiano Ronaldo to do a promo for her film Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. The Bipasha and John starrer Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is based on the game of football. And who better than the international soccer super star, Ronaldo, to promote the film?

Bipasha wants Christiano to tell the Indian audiences about the game of soccer. Now that Chak De India did quite well in the cricket centric India, she wants soccer to make its presence felt with Goal.

Bips is quite sure that Ronaldo will do the promo considering the friendship she shares with him. The two had met during the announcement of the New Seven Wonders of the World. That’s when they got embroiled in the kissing controversy. Well, considering that Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is Bipasha and John’s first film together after their patch up, wonder if it is good idea getting Christiano into the picture yet again?

Deepika Padukone plays on a sticky wicket

According to sources Deepika Padukone was recently spotted with cricketer Yuvraj Singh in one of Mumbai’s night clubs. Some time back Mahendra Singh Dhoni had sent a special invitation to her to watch the India vs Australia 20/20 match. On the other hand freshly single Yuvraj Singh, who has split with Kim Sharma, seems to be playing the sweep stroke.

Cricketers and Bollywood stars have always been linked. In 1969 Sharmila Tagore married cricketers Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. In 1983 Kapil Dev was linked to actress Sarika and during 80’s Zeenat Amaan was linked to Pakistan Cricketer Imraan Khan.

In 1996 former Indian cricket team captain Azharuddin married Sangita Bijlani. Later, the already married Saurav Ganguly was linked to Nagma. Sonali Bendre was also linked to Pak. Cricketer Shoaib Akthar while his Indian counterpart Zaheer Khan was linked to Isha Sharvani.

Now with Deepika making her big screen entry with OSO, it is difficult to understand whether she is interested in cricket or cricketers.

Priyanka Chopra turns down Salman Khan

Priyanka Chopra was recently seen endorsing a men’s range of clothing. Looking every bit of the glam babe that she is, she also managed to dodge all the questions thrown at her.
Priyanka Chopra was recently seen endorsing a men’s range of clothing. Looking every bit of the glam babe that she is, she also managed to dodge all the questions thrown at her. Inspite of the news of her alleged affair with Harman Baweja, she still chooses to play safe. She recently shot for the brand in Paris, the fashion capital. When asked with whom she would like to visit that city, she said, “…with the man I am in love with. When that happens, maybe I will travel the world with him.” So obviously we are to assume that Ms. Chopra is still very much single.

Also, the news of her link up with cricketer Mahendra Dhoni has been quite prevalent since a while. However, she just laughs it off saying they’ve hardly ever met. It was heard that Priyanka who is in the good books of all her co-stars, has managed to irk Sallu bhai. Apparently she declined the offer to work in Salman Khan’s home production. All Priyanka had to say about it was he often quoted, date problem.

She said, “I’ve always admired Salman. I’ve worked with him in the beginning of my career and I owe him a lot as an actor. It’s just that I couldn’t shoot for his film as I didn’t have dates.” Well, we are sure if the project was worth snubbing Salman Khan, it must surely be something to watch out for.

Suddenly Kareena Kapoor is walking on sunshine.

Shahrukh walks out of Robot

Reports are that Shahrukh Khan has walked of director Shankar’s next movie, Robot.
Reports are that Shahrukh Khan has walked of director Shankar’s next movie, Robot. The much publicized film had many takers before Shahrukh Khan was finalised as the lead actor. However, owing to creative differences, SRK has walked out of the film.

Shahrukh Khan said that he was not very pleased with certain things in the movie. While he wanted them changed, Shankar refused to budge from the original concept. This led to the walk out. Apparently he had even kept seven months off for this project. Now that it has been cancelled, he’ll start shooting for his next project, Don 2, towards the end of this year. SRK also rubbished the rumours of him starring in Dhoom 3. Guess it will be a long wait for his audience after Om Shanti Om.

Abhishek to do a cameo in Om Shanti Om

Om Shanti Om’s title song has been in the news even before it got aired. With 31 stars in this item number
Om Shanti Om’s title song has been in the news even before it got aired. With 31 stars in this item number, almost all known faces have made their presence felt except the Bachchan family. Obviously when a Shahrukh Khan enterprise doesn’t’ have anything to do with the Bachchans, even that becomes an issue.
However, news is that Big B and Abhishek do make a special appearance in the film, just not in the song though. Farah Khan said, “Unfortunately, while shooting for the song, Abhishek was getting married. We couldn’t ask him to take a break from that and shoot for the song. However, they are very much part of Om Shanti Om. The movie would be incomplete without them.”
As for Aamir Khan’s absence in the song, she says, “Aamir was going for the shoot of Ghajini. Else it would have been historical getting all the three Khans together.” Well, whatever be it, seems like Om Shanti Om will get quite a good response considering the way the cast of the movie have been working on its promotions. Even the very pregnant, Farah doesn’t seem to take a break.

Om Shanti Om to be shown at Style Awards

Om Shanti Om is believed to be the most hyped film of the year. It’s but obvious considering that Farah has managed to rope in 31 of the biggest Bollywood stars for an item number in the film. Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and Farah Khan.

Om Shanti Om is believed to be the most hyped film of the year. It’s but obvious considering that Farah has managed to rope in 31 of the biggest Bollywood stars for an item number in the film. Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and Farah Khan were seen talking about the much talked about seventies’ look in the film.
Farah says, “The look is of the seventies and was the most stylish era in Bollywood. Let’s hope the retro styles, the big collars, and the bell bottom pants make a comeback.”
The association of the film with the Style Awards just reinstates the style quotient of the film. About the style factor of the film, Deepika says, “Apart from the clothes, the movie itself has the look of the seventies. Farah has used colours accordingly. Then there is Shahrukh’s six pack abs to look out for.”

Well, with Saawariya also releasing on the same day as Om Shanti Om, wonder what the audience will fall for?
