Urmila Matondkar was born on February 4th 1974 in Bombay. Daughter of a lecturer, Urmila began her career as a child artist with the film Kalyug (1980), but it was with the 1983 hit, Masoom, that she got noticed. The Lakdi ki Kati Kati pe Ghoda, track from the film is still one of her favorites amongst children. She subsequently appeared in a number of films including Dacait (1987), where she plays Sunny Deol's under-aged sister who gets brutally raped.
An Aquarian by nature, Urmila has proved her talent with the variety of roles she has enacted since her debut as a child actor in 1980. Urmila made her debut as a lead actress in N. What most actresses hadn't managed even after a dozen hits, Urmila had achieved with only one film. And ever since, she has been associated with Asha Bhosle's sensual voice and also the image of the sizzling seductress. With this film, Urmila entered the rat race of actresses and was flooded with offers. An actress of great talent and skill - her performance in Satya (1998) as a modest girl whose boyfriend, gets sucked into the Bombay underworld is one of her best ever performances to date. Some other movies with which she made an impact are Kaun (2000), Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Bhoot (2003) and Pinjar (2003).IN Bhoot she plays the role of a ghost possessed woman won her Zee Cine award and Star screen Award for best actress in Bhoot.
In 2004 she had a single release titled Ek Haseena Thi, for the second time she showcased a negative performance and the film was a hit with her performance being well appreciated by the critics. This was followed by Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005) and Ek Dhun Banaras Kee (2006).
